U: Used for First Aid (Herbs)

herbal first aid2.jpgHerbs are used for garden accents, for cooking, or for aromatic purposes. Herbs are also used for healing. Besides the typical medicinal reasons so many people use herbs, many herbs have a place in first aid kits.

Aloe Vera: The gel from the plant is great on burns and blisters.

Arnica: Made into a topical cream or lotion, arnica is fantastic for muscle pain, bruises and trauma.

Chamomile: As a tea for relaxation or indigestion. As a tincture for colicky babies. Also good for various skin conditions.

Comfrey: As a salve or poultice for bug bites, cuts, bruises and poison ivy.

Eucalyptus: Great for congestion and sinus problems.

Echinacea: Capsules or tea to combat illnesses.

Lavender: Essential oil works great on headaches. Also excellent on burns and open cuts or wounds to promote healing and fight infection.

Peppermint: Tea is great for digestion. Essential oil or tincture for headaches or nausea.

Frontier Herbs has a good post on Herbal First Aid. They have some basic information with definitions, a few recipes and recommendations on some herbs to have in your herbal first aid kit. I’ve purchased herbs from Frontier for many years and have always been very pleased with both the products and their herbal information.

Wellness Mama has an excellent post with detailed information on a Natural First Aid & Illness Kit.
